Latin America offers wonderful destinations for a honeymoon.

Are you into culture, big cities, magnificent nature experiences or sandy beaches?

Whatever floats your boat, you’ll find it in the Latin American countries!

Read on here and get five suggestions for unforgettable honeymoon destinations.

Brazil: big city, nature and beach holiday

Rio de Janeiro

If you’re looking for a honeymoon that combines the big city with fantastic nature experiences, and which can be rounded off with a wonderful beach holiday, then Brazil is the destination for you.

Walk hand in hand down the seafront at Copacabana, go for a dip in the bracing waves or experience the carnival behind the scenes. End the day at the top of Rio de Janeiro and enjoy the romantic sunset from the Sugar Loaf mountain, 396 m above the city.

In Salvador, it’s time to get your walking shoes on and explore the colonial city’s historic centre. Cobblestone streets, charming colonial buildings and beautiful coastal views make Salvador a thoroughly romantic experience.

In addition to its fascinating cities, the country’s nature is very much on the agenda on a tour to Brazil. Visit, for example, Iguazú Falls in southern Brazil, which consist of 275 waterfalls and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The waterfalls offer stunning views and are an experience you won’t forget in a hurry. But there’s more to Brazil than its outstanding nature.

In the Amazon, you can enjoy the lush rainforest, fascinating wildlife and accommodation with the jungle as your neighbour. You may be lucky enough to see animals such as caimans, monkeys, sloths and reptiles. And you can also enjoy your start to married life out in the middle of nowhere!

Round off your honeymoon with the most wonderful beach holiday. Head, for example, to Praia do Forte, north of Salvador, and let the amazing experiences you have enjoyed sink in in the shade of the palm trees on the beach or on a sun lounger by the pool. Enjoy a few days in each other’s company with no plans at all, before everyday life as a couple really begins.

Costa Rica: national parks, hot springs and beach

Rainforest in Monteverde, Costa Rica

Dream of a honeymoon with out-of-the-ordinary nature, wildlife and beach experiences?

A whole host of highlights await you in Costa Rica. And Costa Rica is a great self-drive country if you prefer exploring the country on your own.

San José, the capital of Costa Rica, is not too big and extremely charming. Go to the market, go for a walk in the city centre and visit its beautiful squares, or plonk yourself down at a pavement café and enjoy a cup of Costa Rican coffee in each other’s company. The cosy capital is a great start to a wonderful, nature-filled honeymoon.

The nature of Costa Rica really is in a class of its own.

Visit, for example, Tortuguero National Park, where you can see sloths, iguanas and macaws. And the sea turtles are the national park’s big draw.

In the hot springs of the Arenal volcano, you can relax in several different pools, which are between 37 and 41 degrees warm. Enjoy each other, enjoy the hot springs and enjoy the paradisical surrounding nature.

Monteverde’s cloud forest offers different attractions entirely. Experience the cloud forest from hanging bridges in the treetops, and feel the small adrenaline rush it gives you. The walk is 3 km long through cloud-like fog. It’s a wonderful and unique experience to enjoy together.

End your holiday with a few quiet days on the coast. In Playa Samara, you can enjoy a few days of relaxation on the beautiful beach or in the water, snorkelling between the lovely corals and fish in all the colours of the rainbow. You could also choose to round off the tour at Manuel Antonio, where besides the stunning national park of the same name, you will find some of Costa Rica’s most wonderful beaches.

Argentina: nature experiences, wine and tango

Perito Moreno

If magnificent scenery, sensual dancing, wine and great big steaks are your thing, a honeymoon in Argentina will definitely be the right destination for you.

Buenos Aires is the perfect city to start an unforgettable honeymoon. Walk hand in hand in the historic, colourful La Boca district, see the beautiful opera house, Teatro Colón, or the city’s numerous romantic squares. In the evening, you can go out and dine on an excellent steak accompanied by exquisite wine, which you can also combine with a fascinating tango show with its melancholic tones conducive to dance.

One of Argentina’s absolute highlights is its unique nature.

Peninsula Valdes is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area offers abundant wildlife where you can experience the fascinating elephant seals, seals and sea birds. Between June and December, it is also possible to go whale watching, when you may be lucky enough to spot killer whales.

In southern Argentina, close to the border with Chile, lies the city of El Calafate. The southernmost tip of Argentina, and thus South America, is called Patagonia, and it is known for its dramatic landscape. This is where you will find the vast Perito Moreno glacier, which is an impressive 60 metres high and around 4 km wide. Its size, the crazy noise it makes when a piece of ice breaks off and falls into the water and the wonderful blue colour take your breath away.

And it would almost be a crime to leave Argentina without also having experienced one of the world’s largest waterfalls. Located on the border between Brazil and Argentina, Iguazú Falls are a formidable experience. 275 waterfalls of varying sizes provide a romantic end to a nature-filled honeymoon.

And then you get the chance to taste one cup of coffee after another and find your favourite, which you can buy to take home with you. The nature of the coffee region is incredibly scenic, and you simply have to visit some of the romantic cities in the region.

You will also enjoy romantic twosomeness in the capital Bogotá and the coastal city of Cartagena.

Bogotá is a city sure to win your heart. Go for a morning bike ride in the city centre on Sundays, when the roads are closed to cars, or head up to the summit of Mount Monserrate and enjoy the view of the city – and each other!

In Cartagena, you will experience the Caribbean charm in full bloom. Let yourself get lost in the labyrinthine streets of the old town and sit yourself down at an idyllic café and enjoy your favourite coffee. Cartagena’s many neighbourhoods offer unique experiences and exude romance.

Round off your wonderful honeymoon with a romantic beach holiday on the coral island, Mucura. After a few days in idyllic Cartagena, all that’s lacking is a few days of absolute twosomeness. Just a few hours’ boat ride from Cartagena is the island of Mucura, where you can relax to the sound of the waves. Put on a snorkel mask and experience the fascinating underwater life or stay above water and enjoy each other’s company before everyday life calls again.

Galapagos is made up of countless islands, and you can, for example, visit Isabela, Santa Cruz, Santiago and Sombrero Chino.

Isabela is the largest of the Galapagos islands, where you can see penguins, sea turtles, blue-footed boobies, Darwin’s finches, cormorants and pelicans. The island’s nature offers volcanic formations, colourful coral rock walls under the beautiful water and the fascinating Urvina Bay. If you wish to experience the marine life, you can snorkel in several places and see the amazing world beneath the waves.

At Santa Cruz, which is the second-largest island, you can learn more about the island’s biodiversity and ecosystem. A visit to the Charles Darwin Research Station provides insight into the nature and wildlife of the island and information about the conservation efforts. And don’t forget to visit the beautiful giant tortoises in their natural habitat in Hacienda Primicias. Santa Cruz also offers a salt-water lagoon inhabited by flamingos, northern pintails and stilts, while Dragon Hill is home to land iguanas in a variety of colours.

Santiago and the small island of Sombrero Chino, which is located on the southern tip of Santiago, are also two lovely islands. A colony of fur sea lions lives on Santiago, and the island is also home to lava lizards and crabs. The island has a salt mine crater with a seasonal salt-water lagoon, and salt was mined here 100 years ago. On Sombrero Chino, you can experience lava tunnels and cacti. And you can snorkel or go for a swim in the beautiful water.
