Rio’s natural gems (full-day excursion)

The lively metropolis Rio de Janeiro offers numerous beautiful oases with lush scenery and stunning beaches. On this excursion, you will visit the city’s wonderful green areas of natural beauty and discover national parks, protected areas and beautiful beaches off the beaten track – and you might even be lucky enough to spot caimans and capybaras!

The excursion is ideal for those who love nature but who are not so keen on hiking. You will be driven from one area of natural beauty to another, allowing you simply to enjoy the nature and take in the scenic surroundings.

The first stop on the excursion is the Penhasco Dois Irmãos municipal park, from which you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the Morro Dois Irmãos rock formation on one side and the city and Ipanema and Leblon beaches on the other.

You will then visit Tijuca National Park, a lush rainforest in the heart of Rio and one of the world’s largest city parks. A stop is made at a beautiful waterfall and the Vista Chinesa vantage point with its Chinese-style pavilion, which offers a unique panoramic view of the magnificent metropolis, the Sugar Loaf and Mount Corcovado with the famous Christ the Redeemer statue.

Before heading on to Chico Mendes Park, there will be time for a break, when you can enjoy your packed lunch. Chico Mendes is a small, protected municipal park created with the intention of preserving the Lagoinha das Tachas lake and the flora and fauna around it. On the banks of the lake, you may be lucky enough to spot caimans and capybaras.

You then head to the small beach called Prainha, which is surrounded by mountains and lush rainforest. Prainha is one of Rio’s most popular surfing spots, where you can watch the surfers riding the waves.

Before heading back to your hotel, there’s one last stop at the vantage point, Mirante do Roncador, from which you can enjoy the view of the western beaches. A stop is made at a secluded beach on the way, where you can take a refreshing swim or dip in the sea.

Remember to bring a backpack for your lunch, water (preferably 2 litres), sunscreen and mosquito repellent. We recommend that you wear sportswear, closed shoes and a sunhat.

Lunch is at your own expense. A stop will be made at a supermarket in the morning, where you can buy a sandwich, fruit and water to take with you on the hike.
