This trip starts in Rio de Janeiro, home of the samba. The locals call it ‘the fairytale city’ – and they have every reason to do so. The city is set in magnificent surroundings, with the giant Guanabara Bay to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Here, Rio spreads out over the towering verdant mountains and down to the broad sandy beaches. The city has been shaped by its natural setting, which adds a very special character to the urban landscape. You will have the opportunity to experience an authentic samba show, featuring infectious music and dancing, the 270-metre-high Sugarloaf Mountain, which provides a fantastic, panoramic view out over Rio, and Corcovado Mountain – 710 metres high and home to the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer, which is one of the seven wonders of the modern world. Your holiday finishes off with time to kick back and relax in wonderful Buzios, a town famous for its culinary treats, excellent shops and magnificent beaches that line the bays of the peninsula.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Flight to Brazil
Day 1: Flight to Brazil

Departure day, where you will fly to Rio de Janeiro with connecting flights along the way.

Day 2: Rio de Janeiro
Day 2: Rio de Janeiro

At the airport in Rio de Janeiro, you will be met by a driver who will accompany to your hotel that is located close to the famous Copacabana beach.

The rest of the day is yours to do with as you wish: go swimming in the blue waters of the Atlantic, for example, or stroll along the beautiful promenade by the famous sandy beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. For the locals, beach life is an actual lifestyle. They spend time here hanging out with friends and family, playing volleyball and football, weight training and so on.

It is no accident that Rio de Janeiro is universally recognised as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Not only does it enjoy a unique location, but the ‘cariocaerne’ (as the residents of Rio are known) also spread fantastic joie de vivre through their music and dancing. The atmosphere in Rio is both very special and remarkably relaxed.

To the east lies the giant Guanabara Bay, while to the south is the Atlantic Ocean – and in between, Rio spreads up and over the tall, fertile green mountains and down to the broad sandy beach, where many of the city’s finest buildings are located.

Day 7: Buzios
Day 7: Buzios

The time has come to head for Buzios, which is located around 180 km north of Rio. The town was once a small fishing port, but has since grown appreciably larger on account of its magnificent location. There are more than 20 beautiful beaches situated all around the peninsula in different and distinctive bays.

It was the French diva Brigit Bardot who sparked international interest in Buzios and its wonderful setting back in the 1960s. Today, you can see a statue of her on the beach promenade in the town centre, which the locals erected to express their thanks. The town itself is a charming place, with fine shops, tempting restaurants and interesting art galleries.

There are no big hotels here, just small, inviting ‘pousadas’ (traditional inns). We will be staying at one of them, the Pousada Vila Do Mar.
