The Frida Kahlo Museum

Continue your tour of Mexico City with a visit to the Frida Kahlo Museum, which is located in the city’s historic Coyoacán neighbourhood, and which has become increasingly popular in the past few years. Gain a fascinating insight into the life of one of Mexico’s most famous artists and see some of her famous works.

The museum, which also known as La Casa Azul (The Blue House) because of its blue walls, was the Mexican artist’s childhood home and later the home where she spent part of her life with her husband, Diego Rivera, and where she passed away in 1954 after several years of ill health. A few years after her death, Diego Rivera allowed the house to be converted into a museum in honour of Frida Kahlo. Today, it is one of Mexico City’s most popular museums.

At the museum, you will not only be able to see Frida Kahlo’s home and the personal belongings that provide a glimpse into her life, but also some of her most important works, such as the self-portrait Frida Kahlo y la cesárea (Frida and the Caesarean) of 1931 and the still life Viva la vida (Long live life) from 1954.

Please note: Like all other museums in Mexico City, the Frida Kahlo Museum is closed on Mondays. The days you spend in Mexico City will therefore be planned so that your visit to the museum does not fall on a Monday.
